Why don’t we want to coach other cyclists? Powermeters offer cyclists an advantage over heart rate or other tools for training – they tell you what you are doing and, with proper interpretation, what you are capable of. Training with a powermeter generally means training harder when you train hard and easier when you should be recovering or working at lower levels. It is the best tool for scientific training today. It also gives us the data to know what you’ve done and what you should be doing.

The great thing (and the worst thing) about a powermeter is that you can’t hide – you know what you are doing, and you know what other people can do, i.e. Tour de France power files are available.
